Waterbirth Photo Competition

It's the 3rd year of our annual Waterbirth Photo Competition and we are excited to see more amazing images of women, their supporters and babies. This year the competition is open to entries from across the globe. No further entries accepted. Winners have been announced.

Purpose

The purpose of the competition is to share images of waterbirth that educate and inspire women, their families, supporters and health professionals.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: US$250
  • 2nd Prize: US$100
  • 3rd Prize: US$60 

Or local currency equivalent.

Judging Criteria

The judges will seek to shortlist the 5 images that they feel best convey the beauty, power and calm of waterbirth.

Public voting will determine both (a) the 20 images the judges select their top 5 from and (b) the final winners. 

Criteria for Entry

  • You are the owner of the images and have the right to use them
  • Maximum 2 photos per birth can be entered
  • Image minimum dimensions 400 x 300 pixels
  • Image maximum dimensions 3000 x 2250 pixels, i.e. 6.75 megapixels
  • File format JPEG (.jpg) only
  • You are not an employee of The Good Birth Company
  • The photos have not entered into the competition in any previous year

Process for sending in entries

  • Email photos to photo@thegoodbirth.co.uk with
    • your name,
    • town & country where you live
    • first names of those in the photo
  • You will receive an email confirming receipt of your image and it's availability for voting within 7 days. If you do not receive this email confirmation within 14 days, please email info@thegoodbirth.co.uk after checking your Junk or Spam folders.

Agreement

  • By submitting photos to The Good Birth Company, you agree that:
  1. You are the owner of the images and you are free to use them for any purpose as you wish,
  2. You grant to The Good Birth Company until 1/Dec/2016 a non-exclusive licence to publish the images in any media or format it chooses and to grant sub-licences.
  • The Good Birth Company commits that it will not alter the images with the exception of cropping or resizing them to fit a publishing format, and that we will only use them to promote awareness about waterbirth, the company and its products.

Voting on entries begins: 1st November 2011
Deadline for entries: 14th November 2011 20:00
Top 20 by popular vote forwarded to judges: 27th November 2011 12:00
Shortlist of 5 announced, voting continues: 4th December 2011
Voting closes, prizes announced: 9th December 2011 12:00

Prizes will be awarded to the entries that have the most votes from the Top 5 shortlisted by the Judges.

Delivery of Prizes

Prize winners will be contacted on 12th December by email to arrange delivery of prizes. Prizes will be delivered in US$ or local currency equivalent at discretion of The Good Birth Company via PayPal, Amazon vouchers or other methods depending on location of winners.

About the Judges

Dianne Garland is one of the world's leading authorities on water birth. Dianne is author of Waterbirth: An Attitude to Care and leads waterbirth study days for midwives in the UK and all over the world. Dianne is often called as an expert witness in midwifery and continues to practice in Kent. Dianne's website is at www.midwifeexpert.com.

Barbara Harper, RN is a pioneer in the field of waterbirth, both as a an author and leader of professional workshops in waterbirth credentialling in hospitals across the USA and around the world. Barbara is the author of Gentle Birth Choices and appears regularly on radio and TV as a proponent of women's rights around birth. Barbara is mother of 3, with 2 born in water. Sara Wickham is a midwife, author, teacher and researcher. She divides her time between working as the editor of Essentially MIDIRS and undertaking freelance speaking and consultancy work. Sara is the author is many books and articles relating to birth and midwifery and has been involved in supporting women to use water for labour and birth for nearly twenty years, both in practice and through the creation and teaching of evidence-based materials to help midwives learn more about this area.

Amy Maclean is an Antenatal Teacher for the NCT, mother of 4 boys and Founder of The Good Birth Company, whose mission is the make waterbirth available to all women. Amy is author of a children's picture book about a forthcoming home water birth - Our Water Baby. Amy has had 3 fabulous home water births.
